Opening Speech for Darunnajah Language Competition

Bismillahirrahmanirrahim,

Distinguished guests, honorable teachers, dear participants, and all members of the Darunnajah family,

Assalamu’alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh.

Alhamdulillahi Rabbil ‘Alamin, all praises be to Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala who has granted us the opportunity to gather here today for the Darunnajah Language Competition. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad Shallallahu ‘Alaihi Wasallam, his family, his companions, and those who follow his guidance until the end of time.

It is with great honor and immense joy that I stand before you to officially open this annual competition—a prestigious event where students from all Darunnajah school branches come together to celebrate and showcase their skills in Arabic and English languages. This competition is not just about winning trophies or medals; it is about fostering linguistic excellence, confidence, and global competitiveness among our students.

Language is more than just a means of communication; it is a bridge that connects cultures, knowledge, and civilizations. As students of Darunnajah, mastering Arabic—the language of the Qur’an—and English—the international language of science and diplomacy—is a key to unlocking greater opportunities in the future. These two languages have long been the crown of Darunnajah and its students since the very beginning. Arabic is the key to understanding Islamic knowledge, while English is a gateway to engaging with the modern world. Upholding this tradition, Darunnajah has always emphasized the importance of mastering both languages as a core part of its educational mission.

As the saying goes, “Arabic is the language of the Qur’an, the key to Islamic knowledge, and a bridge that connects us to our rich heritage and identity.” Meanwhile, “English is not just a language; it is the key to knowledge, opportunity, and global connection.” These two languages serve as essential tools for Darunnajah students to excel both religiously and academically, preparing them to become influential leaders in various fields.

فإنّ اللُّغَةَ العَرَبِيَّةَ مِنْ دِينِ اللهِ، فَإِنَّ تَعَلُّمَهَا وَتَعْلِيمَهَا فَرِيضَةٌ وَاجِبَةٌ

(“Indeed, the Arabic language is part of the religion of Allah, and learning and teaching it is an obligation.”)

However, true mastery of these languages cannot be achieved solely through studying grammar, vocabulary, and classroom exercises. The key to maximizing fluency and confidence lies in actively using Arabic and English in daily conversations. Without consistent practice and real-life application, language skills remain stagnant. Therefore, I encourage all of you to immerse yourselves in these languages, engage in discussions, debates, and storytelling beyond just the competition setting. Make it a habit to communicate in Arabic and English with your peers and teachers so that fluency becomes second nature to you. First you make your habits, then your habits will make you.

To all participants, I urge you to compete with sincerity, sportsmanship, and dedication. Winning is an achievement, but the true victory lies in the effort you put forth, the lessons you learn, and the friendships you build along the way. Whether you are competing in speech, debate, storytelling, or other linguistic disciplines, remember that this event is a stepping stone toward your greater journey of learning and excellence.

Additionally, this competition serves as a valuable learning experience for both junior and senior students. For the juniors, it provides inspiration and motivation to strive for excellence in Arabic and English, seeing their seniors as role models in linguistic mastery. For the seniors, this event is not just about competition, but also an opportunity to learn leadership and organizational skills, as they take part in managing, mentoring, and guiding their younger peers. These experiences will shape them into future leaders who are confident, responsible, and capable of inspiring others.

I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to all teachers, organizers, and committees who have worked tirelessly to make this event possible. Your dedication and hard work have paved the way for the success of this competition. May Allah reward you all abundantly.

With that, I hereby declare the Darunnajah Language Competition officially open. May this event be filled with inspiration, motivation, and unforgettable experiences.

Wassalamu’alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh.
